Overview: What are we talking about?
Packages are pre-paid punch cards that allow a customer to pay for a certain amount of reservations ahead of time. For example, a customer may purchase a package to pre-pay for a 10 pack Full Day Daycare for a further discounted rate. Because the package is associated with the customer, they can optionally use this package for any other animal in their family. In this article, we will show you how to create and edit packages for Reservation Types, and how to manage all associated settings.
This article includes:
Helpful Hints: Before you begin.
- Some commonly-used Packages include:
10 Pack | Full Day Daycare
5 Pack | Half Day Daycare
5 Private Training Sessions
6 Week Group Class - Packages are attached to the owner's account and can be used for any animal within the same family. If your facility offers a discount on packages for multiple animal families, see the bottom of the guide for some recommendations for setting up and selling family packages.
-
Package credits are not worth a specific dollar amount (number of punches/cost of the package). They are worth the base rate for the reservation type they are associated with. This allows a package credit to be applied to a reservation with automated multiple animal discounts, without leaving a balance on the account. However, this means 2 Half Day Daycare punches, regardless of the price of the package and amount of punches, will not accurately pay for a Full Day of Daycare.
-
Packages are associated with a single day rate of a single Reservation Type.
-
Packages can NOT be set up for Services such as play times, baths, grooms, or walks, at this time.
- Packages can NOT be split. (e.g. cannot use ½ of a Full Day Daycare punch toward a Half Day Daycare reservation).
- Only users in the Admin User Group can create/ edit Packages, and manage associated settings.

Status | If enabled (Yes/On), it will be available for purchase.
Subscription Days | The number of days before a package expires (from the time of purchase) can be set optionally | The package expires at midnight after the expiration date. Packages cannot be unexpired. |

Email days before expiration | If you want the "Package Expiration Email" to send a number of days before a customer's package's expiration date, enter the number of days here. Otherwise, leave blank.
Email remaining count threshold | If you want the "Package Expiration Email" to send when a customer gets down to a certain number of credits, enter that number here. Otherwise, leave blank.
Use Pricing Rules on other Reservation Types | If enabled (set to Yes/On), if you apply credits from this package type to reservation types other than the reservation type this package type is set up for (requires the system-wide setting "Allow packages on any type"), then the system will use the pricing rules associated with the reservation type the credits are being applied to in order to calculate the value of the package credit.
Use for subscriptions | If enabled (set to Yes/On), this package will be listed on the New Subscription page and not on the "Sell Retail & Packages" or "Manual Owner Packages" pages. | The package setting "use for subscription" removes the package from being able to be sold 1 time. If you would like to have a package that can be used for subscriptions AND to be sold one as a one-off, then you will need to create two packages and set one to be used for subscriptions and one to not |
Hourly Credit | Only turn on this setting if the package's credits are equivalent to single hours and the associated reservation type is set to "charge by hour." E.g. 3 credits would be applied for 3 hours of daycare.
Subscription Days Start Upon First Use | If enabled (set to Yes/On), the expiration date will be set for the package upon its first use (instead of at purchase). This is helpful for group classes when a customer is enrolling well before the start of the class, and you'd like to have a subscription days (expiration date) on the package.
Can Purchase Through Customer Portal | If enabled (set to Yes/On), the package will be available for purchase by customers on the customer portal. | The online purchase of packages through the customer portal requires Gingr's integrated credit card processing. |
Family Packages
In Gingr, packages sold are available for all animals from the same family because packages live on the owner's account and not each individual animal's account. Due to this, there are 2 options for setting up multiple dog, family packages:
Option 1: Create a coupon to discount the second package.
If your facility offers a consistent percentage discount on all additional animal packages, set up a coupon to simply discount the additional packages in the cart when sold.
Option 2: Create Family Packages.
Since packages are available for entire families, you can optionally set up a single package for multiple animals. For instance, if you offer a 5 Day Daycare pass, you can have a 5 Day Daycare pass for 2 dogs (10 credits), 3 dogs (15 credits)...and so on.
Example:
10 Day Daycare pass:
Single animal: $100
2nd animal rate: $80
3rd animal rate: $80
