Overview: What are we talking about?
A group class is a series of (dog/animal) training classes with pre-set dates. In this article, you will learn how to set up and create group classes.

For each group class that your facility offers you must complete the following in order:
- Set up a Reservation Type for the Group Class.
- Set a rate for each class day.
- Create a Package for the Group Class (optional).
- Create the Group Class.
- Create the Class Schedule.
Set it Up: Let's get started.
Step 1. Create a Reservation Type
You will need to create a unique Reservation Type for the Group Class you're setting up. This reservation type can be re-used as you continue offering the same series with different dates, but if you intend to offer multiple class sessions of this group class that will occur on the same dates, you must create a unique reservation type for each one.
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Reservation Types and Services Configuration.
- Click the Create a New Reservation Type button.
- Fill in the form as follows:
Step 2. Set a Rate
We will need to set a rate for each class session. This rate will be what each credit is worth within the package you've created or what it costs for each session of this type of class if you are not using a package.
For example: We have set up our class so that it has 5 sessions. The total cost of the package created was $125. So, you would divide the total cost by the number of sessions in order to get the rate of $25 per class. This will ensure that the system calculates the revenue correctly and the credits deduct correctly. To set the rate for each class session:
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Location Default Rates.
- Select the location
- Find the group class reservation type
- Set the price for each session. We'll utilize a Puppy Training Class for this scenario:
Step 3. Create a Package (Optional)
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Package Types.
- Click the Add Package button.
|Location||Choose the location of your group class.|
|Name||This is the name of your package.||We recommend making this name the same as your reservation type.|
|Quantity||This is the number of package credits/class sessions the group class will have.|
|Reservation Type||Select the group class reservation type that you made in step 1.|
|Price||This is the price of the group class for all sessions (total cost).|
|Status||This needs to be set to On.|
|Subscription Days||To make the package credits expired after the last class date, set this field to the number of days from the first class date to the last class date, plus one.|
|Is Taxed||If your reservation type was set to tax, the package should also be set to tax.|
|Email Days Before Expiration||Optional: If set, an email will be sent to the customer this number of days before the package expires.|
|Email Remaining Count Threshold||Optional: If set, an email will be sent to the customer once they have the set number of package credits remaining.|
|Use Pricing Rules on Other Reservation Types||If enabled (Yes/On), the system will calculate the rate of the selected reservation type using the attributes (number of animals, length of stay pricing rules) of the selected reservation.||If you don't have pricing rules for your group class, you don't need to set this.|
|Use for Subscriptions||This should be turned off for packages related to Group Classes.|
|Hourly Credit||This should be turned off for packages related to Group Classes.|
|Subscription days start upon first use||Set this field to 'yes/on' if you want the package credits to expire at the end of series of classes.||You must also set the number of days in the Subscription Days field (see above).|
Step 4. Create a Group Class
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Group Classes.
- Click the New Group Class button.
- Fill out the form as follows:
Setting Description Helpful Hint Location Select the correct location for the group class Reservation Type Choose the reservation type that you created in step 1. Package Type Choose the package type that you created in step 2. User Optionally choose an existing specialist that will be responsible for this group class. When a user is assigned to a group class, an event will appear on the facility calendar with that users' name, and any specialties they perform will show an unavailable during the class sessions. Commission Optionally enter a commission amount that the user selected should receive on class reservations. This commission amount is a flat amount. Commission is assigned to the user assigned to the class after the first class session is checked out, and only on the first class session. The flat amount of the commission will be listed on the commission report next to the users name, for each pet that is checked out. Name Name your group class here. If you plan on offering the same class with different schedules (e.g. one starting this month on Tuesdays, another starting next month on Wednesdays), put the first and last dates of the series in the class name. (E.g. "Basic Obedience for Adult Dogs (4/1–4/29). Capacity Enter the maximum number of dogs who can enroll in the class. This will apply to each class date. (Capacity can be overridden later if you wish.) Open Enrollment When enabled, the user enrolling a pet into the group class will be able to choose which dates they want to attend the group class when enrolling the pet. If a package is assigned to the group class, the system will add the number of class dates selected as packages to the shopping cart. If open enrollment is enabled, the package associated with the class should only have 1 credit. Description Enter in a description for the group class, here! This will appear on your Group Class Page. You can add a photo to the description, after the text.
Step 5. Create a Class Schedule
After saving the initial class info, a panel will appear where you will set up the class schedule.
- In the Create Session section, enter the date for the first session in the series, along with a start and end time. You will not change the End Date field unless the first session in the series of classes spans more than one date.
The time fields accept multiple formats, such as 1pm, 1:00, 1300, etc.
In the Create Series by Repeating Above Session section, select how often the class repeats (every week, ever other week, or every month), then enter the number of sessions in the series. This will repeat the session created in the Create Session section on the same day of week at the same time as many times as are indicated in the How Many Sessions? field.
Important! If there are any variations in the series, such as a single session occurring on a different day of week, skipping a week, or anything else, you can edit the individual sessions and add more sessions later.
Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Group Classes.
To edit your class name, description, location, reservation type, or package, click the Edit button within the class from Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Group Classes.
Edit or Add Class Schedules:
To edit an existing schedule for a session within your series, click the pencil icon to the right of the session. To delete a session, click the red x.
To add more sessions, click the Add Class Schedule button.
If you will offer the same series of classes on later dates, you can duplicate an existing class by clicking the Duplicate button.
A panel will appear, asking you to enter the date of the first session in the new series. Based on this date and the schedule of the class being duplicated, a schedule for the new series will be created. We'll enter 01/03/2019 for this example:
The new series will appear with the word Copy.
You will want to edit the new series title to reflect the new dates series.
Disabling and Enabling Classes
If you created a class you no longer wish to offer or you are not ready to have customers enroll in it, you may disable it by clicking the Disable button.
Once disabled, you can re-enable it by clicking the Show Disabled button at the top of the page, then clicking the Enable button within the class.
Disabled classes will not appear on your Group Classes enrollment page, on the business or customer sides of the app.
