Overview: What are we talking about?
Custom animal icons are an easy way to see important details about a pet wherever you see their name in Gingr, as well as wherever the icons are configured to display in pop-up alerts.
Now, Gingr offers this same great functionality for owner profiles so that you can see important details about a customer's account throughout the app. If you have been using Gingr's animal icons feature for a while, you may have set up animal icons that would be better suited to the owner's profile.
While Gingr cannot automatically determine which of your custom icons to migrate over to owner icons, we have created a workflow to aid in the process of migrating animal icons over to owner icons.

Helpful Hints: Before you begin.
- Some system icons that have existed as system animal icons in the past have automatically been moved over to owner icons if the system icon is better suited in the context of the customer's account.
- Depending on how many icons you need to migrate and how much time you have, you can do this all at once or over time.

How to: Migrate animal icons to owner icons.
Step 1: Copy animal icons.
The first step in migrating animal icons to owner icons is to copy the icon templates so that they can be used as owner icons. Gingr has built a copy tool to allow you to easily copy animal icons over to owner icons.
To copy animal icons to owner icons you will:
- Navigate to the left-navigation: Admin » Animal Icons.
- Select all of the current animal icons that need to be copied to owner icons.
- Click the orange Copy Icon(s) button that will appear at the top of the list.
- Carefully review the pop-up message and click Copy Icons.
Note: Copying icons will also copy all icon alert preferences and assigned icon groups. - Done! The selected animal icons now have copies that can be used for owner icons. You can view them by navigation to the left-navigation: Admin » Owner Icons.
Step 2: Assign owner icons.
Icons can have notes assigned to them and, in the case of multiple pet families, there can be multiple notes. Gingr makes no assumptions about which notes are the right notes to transfer or if you want to transfer notes for assigned icons at all. Because of this, you will need to assign owner icons to any owner account that needs it.
To aid in the process, Gingr has created a new report called the Icon Comparison Report which allows you to generate a list of families that either have or do not have icons assigned to owners and animals.
To assign owner icons you will:
- Navigate to the left-navigation: Reports and More » Reports » Icon Comparison Report.
- Run the report to find animals that have the old icons you just copied and owners that do not have the newly copied icons.
Note: When you generate the report, you will see a list of families where the animals have the old icon and the owner does not. - Review icon notes for the icons assigned to pets to determine which notes (if any) need to be transferred.
- Assign the new owner icons to the owner's accounts directly from the report.
-
Remove any icons from animal accounts that you have moved over to owner icons.
Important! Before deleting an animal icon, ensure that any applicable notes have been copied over to the new owner icon.
Step 2: Remove old animal icon types (optional).
Once you are confident that you have migrated all of your new owner icons, you can remove the newly migrated animal icons from Gingr so that they are no longer an option.
To remove an animal icon type:
- Navigate to the left-navigation: Admin » Animal Icons.
- From the list of custom animal icons, select any animal icon types that you no longer need.
-
At the top of the list click the Delete Item button.
Important! Deleting icon types is a permanent action. Before deleting icon types, ensure that you have fully migrated these animal icons to owner icons to prevent important data loss.
