Overview: What are we talking about?
This article is applicable only to businesses that use the PetDetect collar/labeling system. Setting up PetDetect in Gingr requires that you already have a PetDetect printer, driver, and the PetDetect printing medium (collars). Please ignore this article if you do not use PetDetect.

Helpful Hints: Before you begin.
- Gingr allows you to print PetDetect collars for checked-in pets in the following sizes:
- 6" Label
- 12" Collar
- 18" Collar
- 24" Collar
- 30" Collar
- To configure this feature, you will need to have your Use Label Printer setting set to yes/on. You can update this setting by navigating to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Label Templates.
- You may need to play with the settings a bit to make them perfect. Be sure to test print using 6" length in order to save PetDetect medium.
- When you first go to print, in your Print settings, if you see a Headers and Footers option, it must be turned off. If you see a Margins option, you must set it to none. If you do not see these options, but you see More Settings, please click that and look for those options.
- If you see a paper size setting for your printer, set your paper size to IdTag.
- If you are trying to print a collar for a pet, and the collar is showing up blank on the print screen, double-check the Label Templates to ensure that the Reservation Type that the pet is checked in for has its own template.
How to: Set up Label Templates
To print PetDetect Collars, you will need to set up label templates to format the information that prints out on each collar.
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Label Templates.
- Click the Add Label Template button.
- Select your location and the reservation type this collar is for. Two things to be aware of:
- If you have multiple reservation types that should have collars printed for them, you will have to set up a template for each reservation type.
- If your templates for different reservation types will be more or less identical, use multiple tabs in your browser and copy and paste text from one template to the next.
- If you have multiple reservation types that should have collars printed for them, you will have to set up a template for each reservation type.
- There are 3 sections on the template, which will print side by side within a 6" space.
- For collars that are 12", the 6" template will repeat twice on the collar.
- For collars that are 18", it will repeat 3 times, etc.
- For collars that are 12", the 6" template will repeat twice on the collar.
- At the top of the page, there is a list of variables that you can use to enter information about the pet, their reservation, and your location if you wish. Please type the variable into the text field.
Here is an example of a collar's setup:
How to: Save a Collar Length for an Animal
You can optionally save the default collar length for an animal to make the system remember the collar length from reservation to reservation. To set this up:
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Animal Form.
- Add the Animal Collar/Label Length field type to your Animal Form.
- Place this field on the form where you'd like to see it, and make sure to set this field as a Business - Only field so that customers cannot set this themselves—they likely will not understand what it does. Do not change the Field Name for this field. It should always look like this:
- Save your form.
- To save a collar length to an animals profile, Edit the animal and select their collar length before saving their profile.
How to: Print Labels
To print a collar for a pet who is checked in:
- Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Reservations » Print Labels.
- A panel will appear. Select the pet and the collar length, then click the Print Label button.
-
A new tab will open with the Print screen. Click the final Print button in the Print dialogue.
-
12" collars will look like 2 sheets, 18" collars will look like 3 sheets, etc., but they will print as one continuous collar.
To print a collar prior to check-in:
- Ensure that you have pop-ups allowed for your app's website. Here is how to enable them for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Internet Explorer.
- Navigate to the Reservation Details page.
- Click the printer icon in the upper right corner then select "Print Labels".
- A new tab will open with the collar label. Click the printer icon. In your computer system printer dialogue box, connect to your label printer, adjust the format settings as needed, then click the final Print button.
