Update Booking Categories (How-To)

Booking Categories are a new concept that essentially group your Reservation Types into their core purpose—Daycare, Boarding, Grooming, Private Training, Evaluations, Group Training, Board & Train, and Other. When first using the new page, if you already have all of your reservation types set up in Gingr, you’ll find that all of your reservation types will initially be aligned under the Unassigned category. 

Assigning Booking Categories is required in order to have services show on the Customer Portal. Reservation types in the "Unassigned" category will not show on the portal. 

Follow the steps below to easily reassign your reservation types to their corresponding categories.

 

Update Booking Categories

  1. Navigate to Admin > Reservation Types and Services Configuration.

  2. Select Manage Categories.

  3. Choose from the Assignable Items section on the left-hand side, and drag and drop each reservation type into its corresponding Booking Category on the right.

Once you have assigned all of your Reservation Types to their corresponding Booking Categories, they will then populate under each category when you navigate back to the Reservation Types and Services Configuration page!

Assign Services & Service Options

In addition to Reservation Types, you can also assign Services and Service Options to Booking Categories. This allows you to organize those offerings by the department that is most likely to perform them. Assigning categories for Services and Service Options helps with organization and reporting across Gingr. These categories are used to filter data in certain reports, as well as within the Facility Calendar.

To assign Services and Service Options:

  1. Navigate to Admin » Reservation Types and Services Configuration.
  2. Select Manage Categories.
  3. From the Assignable Items section on the left-hand side, choose Services or Service Options.
  4. Drag and drop each item into its corresponding Booking Category on the right.

Edit Category Descriptions

The Edit Category Description button allows you to customize the description text that displays in the Customer Portal for each booking category. This gives businesses the ability to provide clear, customer-friendly information about each category during the booking process.

  1. Navigate to Admin » Reservation Types & Services Configuration.
  2. Select 'Edit Category Description'.

  3. A modal window opens listing all booking categories.
  4. Enter a description in the text box for each category.
  5. Select Save to apply changes.

Customer Portal Display

The descriptions you enter will display beneath the category name when a pet parent is creating a new booking. This helps customers understand what each category means and reduces confusion when choosing the correct option.

For example:

  • Daycare Description: “Daycare is a supervised play environment for dogs. Evaluations may be required before your pet can attend.”

  • Evaluation Description: “A one-time session to assess your dog’s suitability for daycare or boarding services.”

Important Notes

  • All changes made here update system-wide across your Customer Portal.

  • If no description is entered, the category will display without additional text.

  • Best practice is to keep descriptions short and streamlined.
