Create Pricing Rules by Animal Weight (How-To)

Article Details

If you charge or discount pets based on the weight of the pet, Gingr can automatically reference the weight on the animal’s profile and charge for their reservation according to the weight categories you set.

When setting up these automated pricing rules, we will begin by setting the base rate of the reservation type to the cheapest weight category. Then we will create pricing rules for each of the progressively more expensive weight categories.

Before You Begin

  • Before you get started, it is important to understand the weight categories you charge for (if at all) and how much each weight category costs. Examples of weight categories might be:
    • 1-25 lbs = $30/night (base rate)
    • 26-50 lbs = $40/night
    • 51-99 lbs = $50/night
    • 100+ lbs = $55/night

  • Think about how your facility charges for boarding and how you might categorize these weight ranges. If you are unsure, then please reach out to your onboarding specialist.

Create Pricing Rules by Animal Weight

Set the Base Rate

When setting up these automated pricing rules, we will begin by setting the base rate of the reservation type to the cheapest weight category. Then we will create pricing rules for each of the progressively more expensive weight categories.

  1. Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Reservation Types and Services Configuration.

  2. Click the icon.

  3. Confirm that the base rate amount is set to the lowest weight category price you offer. If not, set the price and click save.

Create Pricing Rules

  1. Navigate to Left-hand Navigation: Admin » Pricing Rules.

  2. Choose your Location.
  3. Select the weight-based boarding Reservation Type that you want to create automated weight-based pricing rules for.

  4. Add a pricing rule and configure the rule with the following information:

    • Label: Name the pricing rule as you want it to appear on estimates, the shopping cart, and receipts (e.g. “Medium Dog (26-50 lbs)”).

      • We are starting with the second cheapest weight category because the base rate of the reservation type is already set to the cheapest weight category.

    • Type: Set the pricing rule type to Animal Weight.

    • Value: Set the value to the animal’s weight where this upcharge should take effect (e.g. If I start charging for “medium” dogs at 26 lbs, then I will set the value to 26).

    • Method: Set the method to either a dollar amount or percentage depending on how you upcharge. Choosing a percentage will upcharge an amount based on the set percentage of the base rate.

      • “Dollar” is the most common method for this weight-based automation.

    • Amount: Set the method to the amount increase from the cheapest weight category (the base rate) to the weight category you are creating a pricing rule for.

      • If I charge $30/night for small animals, then this is my base rate; if I charge $40/night for medium animals, then the amount I enter for this pricing rule is 10.00 because I want to charge $10.00 in addition to the base rate.

  5. Repeat this process to create a pricing rule for each of your weight categories (e.g. Small, Medium, Large, X-Large)

Example

Let's say that your smallest dog rate is $30, which is the base rate that you set above. From there you charge an additional fee per weight class. The Value entered is the weight at which that rule should start to take effect, at the beginning of the weight class. The Amount is what will be added to the reservation if the pet meets your set criteria. Here is what that might look like:
