Overview
Businesses can add a service or service option directly when setting up packages and recurring package subscriptions. This added flexibility allows the business to create more customized offerings without relying solely on reservation types. The setup process remains exactly the same, so there’s no learning curve - just a simpler, more versatile way to build the packages and subscriptions your customers want.
A reservation type package is a package built around reservations. When a customer purchases a package tied to a reservation type, they’re essentially buying a certain number of sessions.
In contrast, a service type package is centered around services or service options. These might include offerings like a spa service, special add-ons such as kongs or treats, or activity items.
Before You Begin
- Only users in the admin user group may configure these as it requires access to an admin page.
- If you plan to sell packages through the Customer Portal or as subscriptions, you must have integrated credit card processing enabled.
- Packages calculate credit value as: Package Price ÷ Number of Credits = Credit Value
Important: Service-based packages are ideal for fixed-rate services. For variable-rate services (such as grooming by size), it is recommended to create multiple packages by price point to ensure credit values align correctly. See Set Up 'System-Modified' Variable Rate Service Packages (How-To) for more information on Variable Rate Packages.
Why Use Service-Based Packages?
Expand Beyond Reservations: Create packages for enrichment, training, grooming extras, or retail-style add-ons.
Protect your revenue: Credits apply only to the services you configure. (Unless 'Allow packages/subscriptions on any type' is enabled)
Improve customer experience: Pet parents can purchase the packages that make the most sense for their pets. (If you have Integrated credit care processing enabled)
Streamlined pricing updates: When service rates change, package credits remain accurate because they’re tied directly to the service, reducing errors and manual adjustments.
