Convenience Fees (Topic Outline)

Article Details

Enabling the convenience fee feature allows your business to charge pet parents a small fee for using an alternative, more convenient payment method, such as using their card on file or manual card entry. Unlike a surcharge fee, which is specifically added to cover credit card processing costs, a convenience fee is applied for offering an easier way to pay. This fee must be a flat amount, clearly disclosed to customers beforehand, and used only when a standard, no-fee payment option is also available. By implementing a convenience fee, businesses can offset operational costs while providing customers with greater flexibility in how they pay.

Due to the legal ambiguity and inconsistency among local jurisdictions, instead of a surcharge fee, a convenience fee was implemented as surcharge fees are restricted in more states and have stricter rules from card brands.

In Gingr, the ¤4.50 convenience fee (¤ = universal currency symbol) is a fixed amount, not a percentage of the transaction. This fee is hardwired into the system and cannot be modified.

Notice: Convenience Fees are only available for those utilizing Gingr Payments Integrated Credit Card Processing.

Caution: Convenience fees are non-refundable and cannot be returned to the pet parent once paid. Regardless of whether the line item charges or payment is refunded, the convenience fee covers the processing costs and will remain with the business.
